(The Bargain Bin highlights recent digs of the very random low-cost high-value variety, be it sonic value, artistic, or merely curiosity. Awesome covers always wlecome. Basically those unlikely “why the hell not” finds that make the vinyl lifestyle such a constant source of joy.)
The dig? “EN HISPANOAMERICA” – PACO DE LUCIA y RAMON DE ALGECIRAS
The Spot? Academy Records, 18th St between 5th and 6th, NYC
The damage? $5
If you like flamenco guitar (and if you don’t what are we supposed to do with you?) then a Paco De Lucia record is always a good find. Throw in the cover photo here and you’re really talking futbal. This is the original 1969 Philips Spanish pressing with the classically flimsy cover that always houses these records. But it’s clean as a whistle and the sq is fantastic. Two guitars (Paco and his brother Ramon) and light percussion, ebullient flamenco immaculately rendered. Highly recommended on just about every sonic and musical index with a frameworthy cover to boot.
